A Note from the Owner: You Win By Taking Action

Since opening my law practice in 2019, I’ve invested over $25,000.00 annually on becoming a better business woman.

 

One investment I’ve made has been joining the program How to Manage a Small Law Firm. Because well, law school teaches you the law, not how to run a business. My membership with this program allows me access to hundreds of informational podcasts and recordings along with a myriad of other resources, and I’d like to share some gems that I took away from a recent message I tuned into. This information is helpful to all business owners and anyone who has set out any goal for them self.

You Win By Taking Action

Everyone wants to be successful in life. Everyone feels good when they accomplish a goal or reach a new milestone. On the flip side, when we don’t accomplish a goal we’ve set for ourselves or we make a mistake along the way, it can be painful. Just know that everyone makes mistakes and is faced with challenges. That mistake you’ve been fretting over for days, weeks, even months possibly- you are not the first person to make it and you most certainly won’t be the last. We all fall short at times.

In the end, the secret to winning in life is taking action. Do not get so caught up planning and preparing to accomplish your goals that you never actually take the first step. Remember: An object in motion stays in motion. So after you take the first small, logical step towards accomplishing your goal, the next small, logical step that you need to take will be apparent to you.

Now that you’ve got the ball rolling, those mistakes, oversights, and challenges are bound to creep in. It’s inevitable! But when the mistakes happen and when the failures occur, follow these two tips:

1) Take a step back and use the mistake or challenge for information. Think to yourself, “What can I do in the future so that this does not happen again?”, and immediately take action accordingly.

2) Continue to take action from a standpoint of faith and trust. You should never make business or life decisions from a place of hopelessness, fear, or doubt. The good news is there is something you can do on your end to help prevent these feelings from creeping in. Plan for the mistakes and challenges before they occur.

After setting your goal, make a list. Write down everything that could possibly go wrong while pursuing your goal. Then, map out what you will do if that situation occurs. Now when those challenges arise, you’ll be able to quickly pivot and follow the plan you’ve laid out, reducing those feelings of hopelessness, anxiety, fear, etc.
